Energy prices have declined, with oil prices in June 2026 falling from USD 75 per barrel before the ceasefire to USD 68 per barrel. Similarly, several commodity prices have passed their peak following the period of heightened conflict in the Middle East.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Nevertheless, damage to key oil infrastructure and the low level of OECD oil reserves may limit any significant further decline in prices from current levels. Looking ahead, continued emphasis must therefore be placed on \u003Cstrong>energy security\u003C\u002Fstrong>, including efforts to ease legal and regulatory constraints in the energy sector. This may include, for example, enabling the export of refined petroleum products to support better management of high domestic oil stocks, which remain a cost factor affecting the country’s energy prices.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Global megatrends driven by investment in \u003Cstrong>artificial intelligence (AI)\u003C\u002Fstrong> and \u003Cstrong>data centers\u003C\u002Fstrong> have become key forces supporting Thailand’s economy, particularly through continued strong export growth and improving private investment. The Bank of Thailand has recently revised its GDP forecast to 2.3%.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>However, Thailand’s economic growth remains uneven and reflects a \u003Cstrong>K-shaped recovery\u003C\u002Fstrong>. Household purchasing power remains weak due to the rising cost of living and a softening labor market. Meanwhile, strong export growth and rising foreign direct investment (FDI) have not translated into real-sector economic activity and employment to the same extent as in the past. This is reflected in low capacity utilization, particularly in traditional industries.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>At the same time, SMEs and small-scale economic players outside the formal system have not fully benefited from economic growth. It is therefore essential to jointly accelerate efforts to leverage technology and FDI to enhance the capabilities of domestic entrepreneurs and improve labor productivity. This includes supporting greater participation of SMEs through the use of \u003Cstrong>Thailand Content\u003C\u002Fstrong> and \u003Cstrong>Regional Value Content (RVC)\u003C\u002Fstrong>, particularly as Thailand moves toward an ageing society, which will place further pressure on national labor productivity in the future.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The\u003C\u002Fstrong> \u003Cstrong>Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB)\u003C\u002Fstrong> supports Thailand’s structural transformation toward a new economy in order to enhance national competitiveness. Although Thailand’s latest IMD World Competitiveness Ranking in 2026 improved to 26th place from 30th in the previous year, several areas still require urgent reform. At the same time, neighboring economies are rapidly narrowing the gap, while credit rating agencies continue to expect Thailand to advance structural reform in the period ahead.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Key reform priorities include the standardization and integration of data systems to better “connect the dots,” such as labor-related data, in order to support more targeted policy design, more effective policy evaluation, and the reduction of hidden system costs.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>JSCCIB will work closely with the \u003Cstrong>Joint Public and Private Sector Consultative Committee (JPPSCC)\u003C\u002Fstrong> to restructure and enhance Thailand’s economic potential through four key pillars. This direction is aligned with the World Bank’s Flagship Report, which aims to support Thailand’s transition toward high-income status within the next 12 years. It is also consistent with the \u003Cstrong>Reinvent Thailand\u003C\u002Fstrong> approach, which seeks to drive seven target industries and build stronger new engines of economic growth.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>JSCCIB, in collaboration with the World Bank, the public sector, and the private sector, is preparing to organize an \u003Cstrong>Affiliated Program of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings 2026\u003C\u002Fstrong> ahead of October.
